Journal 4: Inquiring into the Essay

Explore:

Objects that I have that can have a meaning are my cellphone, a collar, teddy bear, a graduation medallion, and a star wars mini toy.

The mini star wars toy is probably one of the things that I did not realize could have a significance for me. I got the toy when I was in fourth grade, my brother gave it to me as a get well present. When I first got it I thought it was nice of my brother but I really did not like it. I was not into star wars. But I just realized that I would always remember it as a gift my brother gave to me because he thought it would make me feel better. I also realized that he probably thinks that I like star wars since I was born on may fourth, as in the popular saying "May the fourth be with you".

Explain:

A photograph and the essay work together by seeing what the writer is talking about and making the audience kind of relate or see the connection between the two.

Evaluate:

The personal essay implies the feeling guilty. For five years the writer would stare at her weird neighbor and would think he was crazy. From what we know they never had a friendly conversation. Then after a while she started noticing he was never outside like before. So when she say the funeral van and Scotties uncle throwing away his belonging and saw two feet in the trash she went for it to get. I think she went to get it because she was curious and she wanted something to remember him. So when she saw the doll creature she felt guilty because she realized he was depressed and she realized he knew he did not have a "good" life.

Reflect:

I think there is a now and then narrator, I think she realized that she her neighbor was as depressed and lonely with the doll he made. Making realize that maybe is she had ever talked to him he could probably be alive or not as depressed.
